6 Human Foods That Are Safe For Dogs To Eat
Feeding your dog harmful foods for pets can cost you dearly in vet bills. For instance, unsafe human foods for pets can lead to dog obese, allergic reactions, canine diabetes, heart disease, or even pet toxicity and death. The good news is that there are still many safe foods for dogs to eat, and they can provide several benefits. Here are six human foods that are safe for dogs to eat:
1. Sardines
Sardines have a low-calorie count, with each serving providing just 98 calories. You can be sure that your dog won’t lack energy after eating her favorite sardine. They are excellent ingredients to use to make your dog a healthy meal. The proteins in this food are fatty, less caloric, and low in fat, making them safe for your canine friend. These can be steamed or baked (with no added seasoning) then combined with your dog’s favorite food to create a tasty meal that will provide loads of healthy fats, vitamins and dietary fiber. You can also mix vegetables like carrots, broccoli and green peas, with sardines and a bit of yogurt for your dog to enjoy.
2. Pumpkin
Pureed fresh or canned pumpkin has a high fiber count, making it a healthy food for your dog to eat. It is also high in vitamin A and vitamin C. Canned pumpkin without added sugar and spices is easy to find at grocery stores. Pumpkin is especially helpful for dogs with diarrhea, simply add a few tablespoons of pumpkin to your dog’s food. It is a good idea to start out with a few tablespoons and increase gradually to avoid too much fiber too quickly. And as always if your dog has bowel issues, always consult your veterinarian.
3. Lean beef
Lean beef is a great source of protein for your dog. It also contains essential fatty acids, namely omega-6 fatty acids, which promote energy as well as a healthy coat, skin, joints, and muscles. Just be sure to opt for a lean and unseasoned cut of beef, as cheaper cuts of meat often contain too much saturated fat or hormones.
4. Green peas
Green peas are a nutritious vegetable rich in vitamin A, and vitamin C, for energy and immune health. Fresh or lightly steamed frozen peas can be added to your dog’s food. The texture of frozen peas is the same as the fresh ones once thawed, making them easy to blend with your dog’s food.
5. Peanut butter
Peanut butter is a good source of protein for your dog. It also contains healthy oils that can help improve your dog’s skin, joints, teeth, and coat. Peanut butter makes a healthy treat in a kong toy. Just be sure the peanut butter is pet-safe, sugar free, and does not contain xylitol. Also keep in mind that peanut butter can be calorie-heavy in high doses, so please only feed in moderation.
6. Plain white rice
For dogs with stomach or digestive issues, plain cooked white rice with some boiled chicken or turkey can ease a rumbly stomach or vomiting. Plus most dog owners always have white rice in the kitchen. Importantly, white plain rice is also straightforward to prepare, and add to your puppy’s food. Simply boil some water and add three tablespoons of organic white long-grain rice to a cup of boiling water and it is good to go. Be sure the rice remains unseasoned when you feed it to your dog.
